Some of the plans are combined with shop space, apartments or lofts above and feature several structural types for roof and loft. Those plans with apartment plans above in the loft or second story also include alternate second floor plans showing the space as vacant and undefined. That is a helpful option because in many cases one can build a large garage but cannot build secondary or accessory dwellings on their property, as zoned.
So, before selecting your garage plans, be sure it verify what is and is not allowable to build on your lot. Zoning or planning departments are set up to provide that kind of information.

Often third bays are used for storage or shop space. Some of the garage plans feature oversized garage doors, for moving large vehicles in, such as trucks, boats and/or automotive lifts. Allowing a couple feet of walk space around vehicles is very important in planning your garage size, as well as additional storage and/or work areas.
With larger garage plans it is often important to consider building height. Is it overwhelmingly large for the yard? Does it visually compete with the house on the lot? Steep sloped roofs give a much more massive appearance than low slope and gable ends of a garage will be less massive than the eave side of a steeply sloped roof garage.
