Roof Trusses For Garages

Roof trusses are the construction industry standard for roof structures in conventional light wood frame construction when spans exceed about 18 ft. Lesser spans can be framed with standard lumber sizes and sized by referencing the building code load/span tables. Because the longer spans require larger lumber in greater lengths it becomes more cost effective to use manufactured trusses to make the span. The nice thing about trusses is that they are engineered in their manufacture. They are delivered to you building site, often lifted and stacked on the top of your walls, ready to install.
I've complied a list of companies in the truss fabrication business which may be helpful to review. If you are close enough to their plant they may be a supplier for you. But if you are getting materials from a building materials supplier or lumberyard they will likely have at least one truss fabricator they like to use and will order the trusses for you. You can also buy directly from some truss fabricators.
Whether you buy direct or through a supplier be sure to verify the required span, slope, attic (if applicable),overhangs, required loads and/or any other relevant data. In my experience, the people at truss plants are quite helpful and really know their business.
